Hammer-handle pike
and lots of big walleye were the stars of the 2007 trip to Triveet
lake. There were no "guest" fishermen this year, only the
core group of Tom Laxdal, Brian Ford, Don and Colby Gustafson,
Jason "Skinnah" Peesker and Peter, Kris and Curtis Olson.
This was our second
trip to this area and Curtis dubbed it "The Return to Bear
Island....this time the bear gets it". Back in 2004 in this
same spot we were almost wiped out by a couple of hungry bears and
only the efforts of Don and his hurling of sticks, rocks and
obscenities kept us safe from midnight bear attacks. Several
of the team members brought along high powered rifles this time to
feed any unruly bears lead sandwiches. Fortunately (for
them), they did not appear this trip.
This year we had a
relatively incident-free trip, which is quite amazing. There
were no major falls, no bootfalls of lake water, no vicious rain
showers, no extreme sunburns, no animal attacks, no "out of
season" animal kills (except that one bird Colby wasted), and no
boat motor disasters. What we did encounter was great
walleye fishing and perfect weather.
Tom rounded up a
bunch of prizes and this year the biggest pike winners were Colby
and Brian, the biggest walleye winners were Tom and Kris, and the
biggest perch winner was Kris. The unfortunate winner of the
smallest fish prize for a whopping 9" pike was Peter, and for this
he was awarded a lovely pair of pink panties, six sizes too small
for him. They looked real pretty.
Yet another
fantastic trip for the archives.
